He may have been with the club for less than a week, but Tom Ince is already finding out about the undeniable team spirit that exists within the Tigers’ squad.
Along with Robert Snodgrass, Ince is one of two newcomers amongst the squad that is currently training out in the heat of Portugal but the 22-year-old former Blackpool man says he certainly hasn’t been made to feel like the ‘new boy’.
“The first couple of days couldn’t have gone any better,” said Ince.
“The players and staff have been great and I’ve bedded in quickly which always helps. That’s always the hardest thing when you go to a new club, you don’t want to be the oustsider, but the lads have taken me in and it has been fantastic.
“You pick up straightaway that this is a great bunch of lads. The Irish lot are a bit crazy but that’s great because it all goes towards the spirit of the team.
“To come in and be amongst the lads so soon is fantastic.”
While the bonding is one part of the trip to the Algarve, the main focus is on the training ground and building the core level of fitness to take forward into the new season and Ince is enjoying that aspect as well.
“You have to do that work and not only is this pre-season, it’s a pre-season for the Premier League,” added Ince.
“You have to be at it right from the start and that is why pre-season has to be so tough. You have to take yourself through it and push yourself to the limit and to be doing it for a Premier League season is something you dream about as a kid.
“As much as we enjoy the summer break, we enjoy being part of the football environment and you miss kicking a ball around so it’s great to be back at work.
“Once it’s done, we’ll be as fit as ever and ready for the long, exciting season ahead.”
