Steve Bruce has confirmed that midfielder Robert Snodgrass is expected to be out of action for around six months with a knee injury.

The summer signing dislocated his kneecap on his Premier League debut for the club in last Saturday’s 1-0 win at Queens Park Rangers and is soon to undergo surgery to start the rehabilitation process.

Disappointed to lose one of his key acquisitions, Bruce said: “We’ve lost Robert and with the diagnosis, we think we’re going to lose him for six months which is a big blow to us all because we’ve spent a lot of money on that midfield area.

“We’ve lost him for the best part of the season. It’s a tragedy for him and for us.”
