Aluko Signs New Deal

Striker agrees new contract until the summer of 2016....

Hull City are delighted to announce that Sone Aluko has signed a new two-and-a-half year deal with the club.

Aluko’s contract will now run until the summer of 2016 and means the exciting forward will continue to display his talents at the KC Stadium.

The 24-year-old has become a popular figure with supporters since joining the Tigers in the summer of 2012 and he scored eight goals last season to help Steve Bruce’s side gain promotion to the Barclays Premier League.

Aluko started the 2013/14 season in fine form, scoring a memorable winner against Newcastle United before an Achilles problem interrupted his campaign. However, with the striker closing in on a return to action, he is delighted to kick-off 2014 on a positive note.

“I’m happy to extend my stay here,” said Aluko.

“I’ve said right from the beginning, when talk about a new deal first came about, that I was happy here. I also said that it might take time for the deal to happen and that is how it turned out. Because it took a while, people started making a story out of it and were saying that I was going to this place or that place. That was always irrelevant.

“I’m glad that it’s done, but I never really thought that it wouldn’t happen. I’m happy here and things have turned out the way I thought they would. When I first signed, I said that the team was good enough to get into the Premier League and I felt that my second year here would be in the top flight. That is how it has worked out and I’m happy about that.

“I have to thank the manager and the owners of the club. I would also like to thank my team-mates for helping to make my time here a success. If it wasn’t for them, there probably wouldn’t be a new deal.”

Vice-Chairman Ehab Allam said: “We are delighted that Sone has signed a new deal with us. When we sat down with Steve to identify potential targets for January, he was also keen to discuss the possibility of extending Sone’s contract as it was due to expire in the summer. As part of our ongoing commitment to improve the playing squad, we decided that it was in our interest to act now and agree a new deal for such an exciting player.”
