Sone Aluko says it felt great to be back out on a football pitch at the start of the week and he will now aim to build up his match fitness and sharpness as pre-season continues.
Aluko pulled on a shirt for the first time since January when the Tigers beat Winterton Rangers 6-0 on Monday evening and the former Rangers striker was delighted to be back after recovering from Achilles surgery.
“I felt pretty tired afterwards, but the first game back is always tough and especially after the injury,” said Aluko.
“But it was good to be out there again. I enjoyed it and it was great to be back out there with the team. It was fairly competitive in the sense that Winterton put themselves about a bit and we scored some good goals as well.
“I took a whack in the first few minutes and I was disappointed with that. Usually I see things like that coming and can ride it, but I wasn’t quite switched on and he caught me with a good challenge. But it didn’t hurt and I was straight back up and on with things.
“I’m concentrating fully on pre-season and it’s all about getting back to full fitness.”
Aluko is currently in Portugal with the rest of the Tigers’ first team squad for a pre-season training camp and he says this is an important week in the build-up to the new campaign.
“It’s a chance for us all to get to know the new boys and to be a team again,” added Aluko.
“We’ve got a couple of games to play in Portugal as well so it will be good to get some more minutes under the belt.
“Pre-season is never the most enjoyable part of the year, but it’s a part of the year that has to be done.”
