Germany trip starts with a victory....

A debut goal for Yannick Sagbo gave Hull City a 1-0 win over Dynamo Dresden in Germany on Saturday afternoon.

In a game played in muggy conditions at the Glucksgas Stadium, the Tigers were made to work hard in a game split into quarters to account for drinks breaks, though they started brightly.

Robbie Brady had the first shot of the game seven minutes in, but his low, right-footed effort rolled wide of the far post.  Robert Koren then had a similar chance with his left foot, but the ball was comfortably gathered by the home goalkeeper at his neat post.

The breakthrough came in the 14th minute when Sagbo was put through by Aluko’s low pass. The striker ran onto it, before coolly slotting home underneath Benjamin Kirsten with his left foot.

The Tigers continued to play well for the rest of the half, with Robbie Brady and Stephen Quinn in particular exchanging passes down the left wing to good effect.

Steve Bruce made numerous changes throughout the second half, as the pace of the game seemed to slow down.

The final five minutes provided two good chances for the home side as they began to put pressure on the visitors. First, Marco Hartmann’s header made Allan McGregor work for the first time as he made a diving, fingertip save. Moments later, Paul McShane threw himself in front of Anthony Losilla’s strike.

But the Tigers held on to record a deserved win in what was another encouraging pre-season run-out for Bruce’s side.

The second and final game of the Tigers’ mini-tour of Germany comes on Tuesday evening against Eintrachte Braunschweig.
