Steve Harper says he feels fresh and excited after signing for Hull City and believes his experience can be beneficial to the club as the Tigers head back into the Barclays Premier League.
The 38-year-old goalkeeper signed a one-year deal with the Tigers on Monday and already seems to be settling in well with his new team-mates.
“Hull City just felt like the right option for me,” Harper told www.hullcityafc.net
“It’s a new page in my career and it feels fresh and exciting. It’s probably just what I need at this stage and I’m really looking forward to it.
“I’ve got a lot of experience in the Premier League and I’m sure that will come in handy. I’ve already said to the rest of the lads, and particularly the younger goalkeepers, that if they want to ask me anything I’m here to help.
“I trained with the lads on Monday afternoon and they’re a great bunch.”
Harper had already turned down a number of offers of employment this summer before the call came from the Tigers and when it did, there was little hesitation from the man who has spent the last 20 years of his career at Newcastle United.
“I got the call over the weekend and travelled down to Hull on Monday morning,” added Harper.
“I had a very thorough medical which I came through and now I’m delighted to be here.
“It was well documented that I left Newcastle at the end of last season and I’d had quite a few phone calls. I turned three options down and another Premier League option as well.
“But I’ve come across Steve Bruce a fair few times in the last 20 years and I also know a few of the lads here – it just felt like the perfect option.”
