With Allan McGregor ruled out through injury, Harper and Eldin Jakupovic are competing for the goalkeeping jersey at White Hart Lane and while Harper is disappointed that an opportunity has opened up because of an injury to his colleague, he is ready to answer Steve Bruce’s call.
“We’ll see what happens when Sunday comes,” said Harper.
“Myself and Eldin are both pushing to get the nod for what will be a very tough game at Tottenham.
“I think we’ve had four away games so far and conceded a couple of goals in each of them, so that is something we’ll be looking to address.
“If the chance comes my way I’ll look forward to getting some games in. My last Premier League game was for Newcastle in May so it will be great to be back involved.
“That was part of my reason for coming here, to stay involved in the Premier League and maximise my chances of getting an opportunity in this league. Hopefully that will come along on Sunday.
“Injuries do come along at some stage and that gives opportunities to other people.
“It’s disappointing for Allan and I think it’s something that had been niggling on for a while but he was managing it.
“I think with two games in a short space of time - the international game and the Everton game - it’s caught up with him.
“He’s done well and I’ve been very impressed with him.”
