The Tigers have been dealt a blow ahead of Sunday’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur with the news that goalkeeper Allan McGregor has been ruled out of action for around six weeks with a thigh injury.
McGregor, who has been in fine form since joining the club in the summer, picked up the injury during last weekend’s defeat at Everton and will now have to watch from the sidelines as his side look to continue their encouraging start to the season.
“We’ve just found out this morning that Allan is going to be out for five or six weeks,” Bruce told the Official Website.
“As I’ve said repeatedly, injuries are the one area where we needed to stay fit and healthy and this one couldn’t have come at a worse time.
“Allan will be a big miss for us because he has played very, very well and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
In the absence of McGregor, Bruce can at least turn to the experienced Steve Harper for cover. Harper has kept clean sheets in his two first team appearances for the Tigers so far this season in the Capital One Cup ties against Leyton Orient and Huddersfield, and has vast experience of the top flight after spending 20 years at Newcastle United.
“This is the reason we brought Steve in to be fair,” added Bruce.
“He’s got an abundance of Premier League experience and we’re lucky that we can call upon somebody with his experience.”
