The Tigers named a relatively experienced line up with Proschwitz being joined up front by Matty Fryatt and Yannick Sagbo who was returning from a three match suspension. David Meyler was included in the City midfield and Alex Bruce lined up in the centre of defence alongside Abdoulaye Faye who began his return from injury in the Reserves previous match, a 4-0 victory at Doncaster Rovers.
Rotherham named a much younger and less experienced side and it was no surprise that City dominated the game. Conor Henderson shot wide in the opening stages, Proschwitz lobbed a shot over keeper Tony Thompson but also over the angle of crossbar and post and Meyler’s left footer from the edge of the box was parried by the keeper who then did well to deny James Armstrong from the rebound.
Proschwitz, Bruce and Armstrong all shot wide before Fryatt’s header from a Henderson corner was cleared off the line by Reece Lucas. Proschwitz then sent another shot wide and Thompson again saved from Meyler before the Millers created their best chance of the game. Callum Burleigh released Andy Norfolk but he shot straight at Joe Cracknell in the City goal.
Thompson then parried another Proschwitz effort and Armstrong netted from the rebound only to be flagged offside. Lucas produced his second goal-line clearance of the game, this time to deny Proschwitz’s header from a Henderson corner and the following goalmouth scramble saw Faye’s effort blocked on the line.
The final chance of the opening period fell to Sagbo but he sliced his left foot shot wide of the post.

The Millers had a chance to open the scoring just after the break but Burleigh fired high wide before Proschwitz was off target with a header from Meyler’s cross.
The German striker finally broke the deadlock in the 56th minute when he headed in from Sam Topliss’ cross after the City full back had combined with Meyler on the right.
Thompson then saved a right foot shot from Proschwitz but the City striker scored his second of the game in the 63rd minute. Matthew Fletcher’s pass gave him the chance to turn and fire a left foot shot low past Thompson.
Proschwitz completed his hat trick in the 70th minute when Topliss again did well on the right and as Fletcher challenged Thompsom for the ball it broke for Proschwitz to tap in from a couple of yards out.
The Proschwitz Show was completed just a couple of minutes later, a right foot shot from the edge of the box flying past Thompson.
The Millers keeper then held a Fletcher header before Proschwitz had three chances to grab his fifth goal of the game. Firstly a left foot shot was deflected for a corner, secondly he lifted the ball over the keeper only to see Max Hallett clear and finally he sent a right foot shot across the face of goal.
