One Big Target For Maguire

Harry Maguire is refusing to set a specific target in terms of the number of points the Tigers will need to avoid relegation and is instead focussing on the overall aim of Premier League survival.

With five games of the season remaining, Marco Silva’s side are two points clear of Swansea City who currently occupy the final relegation place and face a huge home game on Saturday when they welcome Watford to the KCOM Stadium.

“It’s a case of going out there and trying to win every game,” said Maguire.

“You see strange results every week and you know you can’t rely on other teams picking up or dropping points, it has to be about what we do.

“The danger with setting a tally of points that you think you will need is that you can reach that target, relax and then drop back into the bottom three and still go down.

“That isn’t something we want to get into. We’ve got a couple of massive home games coming up, but we know we need to be picking up points in the two away games we have left as well.

“Results are what matter now, we’re not too worried about performances along as the points go in the bag.”

As a case in point, despite delivering a promising performance last Saturday the Tigers suffered a disappointing result when beaten 3-1 by Stoke City, a game in which Maguire took little consolation from scoring his second goal of the season.

“We went to Stoke confident that we could pick up points, but it wasn’t to be,” added the big centre back.

“It was a game that summed up our last few away performances to be honest. We made a sloppy start, deserved to go behind and then went on to dominate for long periods. We got ourselves level, but then their substitutions turned the game.

“We have to bounce back from that result now and get ready for a big home game against Watford.”
