Leonid Slutsky says he is very proud to be the new Head Coach of Hull City and is looking forward to the challenge of trying to guide the Tigers back to the Premier League.
Slutsky was at the KCOM Stadium for the first time on Wednesday after flying in from Russia and is already working hard on bringing in new staff and players, and the former boss of the Russian national team can’t wait for the start of pre-season training next month.
“I am very proud to be the Head Coach of this football club and this is a serious challenge for me,” said Slutsky.
“I’m very thankful for the opportunity to work here and I am confident that I can bring some new ideas and good football for our supporters. I hope that we can have some serious success together.
“It wasn’t difficult for the owners to persuade me that this is the right job for me. They were very open with me. I am sure this is a team and a club that should be in the Premier League, and so winning promotion next season has to be a serious target. The Championship is going to be a difficult league, but it is possible.
“This is a really big chance for me in my career and both the Club and myself have the same target. I want to put all of my knowledge and energy into this.
“I have watched all of the matches from last season and have looked at all of the performance analysis, as well as reports on every player in the squad. The squad is good and the first target has to be to try and keep a lot of the players.
“It is normal that there are a lot of changes in a team that is relegated and that players will want to leave, but this means that we have the opportunity to bring in some new players as well as bringing players in on loan.
“There isn’t too much time before pre-season begins on July 3rd, but I hope that by that day we will have at least 90% of the squad in place. This is going to be a very busy time for me and the Club because we now need to bring in some new players.
“This is a very exciting time and I am waiting for the first training session. It will be my first in England and my first using the English language. But there is football language as well and in this sport that is more important than anything.
“I will be very happy when I meet the team and start working with the players that we have, communicating my ideas to them and working together.”
