Steve Bruce felt the Tigers were close to their best performance of the season in Tuesday night’s 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers.

Gedo and Ahmed Elmohamady scored the goals as Bruce’s side maintained their position in the automatic promotion places and closed the gap on league leaders Cardiff to five points on an excellent night at the KC Stadium.

“I thought that was as good as we’ve been since we played Leeds United over Christmas,” said Bruce.

“We’ve basically played against one of the big teams in the division and blown them away. I think they only had one shot on our goal and that was from 30 yards in the first few minutes, and again we looked very solid.

“We had that cutting edge as well and Gedo scored again, which is terrific.

“We’re not getting carried away, but that was as well as we’ve played. We were ready for the challenge of Blackburn and they are certainly no push-overs.”

The victory rounded off a fine week on home soil with maximum points taken from three games and Bruce has thanked the club’s fans for turning out in their thousands to support the team.

“We needed to make the most of this run and we thank the supporters because we know how difficult it is during these times to find the money to come and watch us three times in a week,” added Bruce.

“The support has been terrific. Hopefully they can save up again and make it an even bigger attendance when we’re back here against Birmingham at the start of March.”

With 13 games remaining in the season, the Tigers are in a fantastic position in the Championship table but with the nature of the division, Bruce is taking nothing for granted.

“It’s all to play for,” said the City manager.

“Two weeks ago, we were six points adrift of Leicester and now all of a sudden we’re nine clear of them – it’s ridiculous.

“Crystal Palace have had a wonderful run, Watford are on an unbelievable run and I think it’s refreshing for the division. Nobody fancied Palace, Watford or ourselves (at the start of the season) and we’re making a big fist of it.

“We’re on 62 points heading towards the beginning of March which is fantastic, so let’s keep it going.”
