After failing to find the back of the net with any his 15 shots in the Tigers’ opening six games of the Sky Bet Championship campaign, Bowen needed just three minutes to make his mark at the KCOM Stadium at the weekend and set the Tigers’ on their way to a vital first home win of the season.
Speaking after Saturday’s victory over the Tractor Boys, Adkins was quick to admit his delight at seeing the 21-year-old winger’s hard work finally rewarded.
“Jarrod’s still a young lad and people were talking about him having not scored prior to the Ipswich game,” he said. “However, he’s got that first goal now and people can talk about something else.
“Talk about the goalscoring positions he gets himself into every game. He did that once again on Saturday. He scored one and the keeper has made two really good saves to deny him from scoring a hat-trick.
“From my point of view, it was always just a matter of Jarrod working on the process. With the talent he has, he’ll always get himself in positions to score goals and finish them.
“It’s pleasing to see him off the mark and up and running. He’s just got to make sure he keeps working hard and putting himself in the right positions and then making the right decisions.”
