The centre-back played 35 second-half minutes in the clash with Portuguese top-flight side in what was his first taste of action since suffering a dislocated shoulder in the Tigers’ penultimate home game of the previous campaign against Cardiff City.
“It was great to see Angus back involved and back out on a football pitch,” Adkins said.
“We didn’t really expect him to be involved in either of our games in Portugal, but he got 35 minutes under his belt and wore the captain’s armband in the second half.
“It’s a big positive to get him on the pitch ahead of schedule and it was good to see him on the pitch alongside one of our new signings in Jordy de Wijs.
“Hopefully he can push on now in training and get some more minutes on the pitch in our remaining pre-season fixtures as he looks to get fully fit for our opening league game of the season against Aston Villa.”
