A first league win of 2018, and only a second away league win all season, came courtesy of first half goals from Jon Toral, who headed home less than 60 seconds after seeing his penalty saved, and Harry Wilson, who celebrated his first goal in senior football, and was enough to lift the Tigers out of the Championship’s bottom three.
“It feels good to win,” said Adkins.
“The lads have been working really hard and we’ve spoken before about that. It was great for Jon Toral to go and score from a header from a set-piece, and so good for him that it came so soon after the penalty that he saw saved because it meant that he wasn’t dwelling on the penalty. I felt for him when the keeper made that save because Jon’s had a chance to score in every game he’s played for me. It was great that he then got that header in. He was in the right position to meet a great ball in from Seb Larsson.
“The second goal was from some exceptional counter-attacking football. Jackson’s played the ball forward, Jarrod Bowen’s gone forward, played it out to Will Keane and he’s crossed it with pace and venom for Harry Wilson to put it in the back of the net.
“The win was only what we deserved. We should have added a third goal to put it to bed, but I thought defensively we were very solid and resolute in what we were doing. Nottingham Forest didn’t really have any chances in the game and it was a very good away performance from us.
“The players have shown that determination and that resilience. We have probably played better than that away from home recently, but this time we got the victory and that is what it’s all about at the end of the day.
“It was great to celebrate an away victory with the supporters at the end.”
The only downside on the afternoon was a tenth booking of the season for Seb Larsson, which means he will now miss next Friday night’s FA Cup clash with Chelsea and the Championship trip to Middlesbrough a few days later.
“It’s a two-game ban but I didn’t think the foul was worthy of a booking,” continued Adkins.
“You could see Seb speaking to the referee afterwards, but it’s a ban for him now which isn’t ideal although it was always going to come at some stage.”
