Adkins Looks Forward To Big Game At Middlesbrough

12 April 2019
Nigel Adkins insists there will be no pressure on his Hull City side as the chase for a play-off place continues against rivals Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The Tigers head to the Riverside Stadium a point behind ‘Boro in the table, and five points behind the final play-off spot with five games of the season remaining.

It means it’s going to be a big game on Teesside, and one that Adkins is looking forward to.

“We’re going there on the back of three wins so momentum has been building nicely for us,” said Adkins.

“We’ve taken 51 points from the last 27 games which is phenomenal. I think there’s only Norwich City, Leeds United and Sheffield United that are up there with us in terms of that. We’re playing entertaining football, scoring goals and our momentum is good going into a big game at the weekend against Middlesbrough.

“We’re at the stage now where we need to be winning the games that are put in front of us and continuing the form that we have got. It’s an exciting time.

“We’re a point behind Middlesbrough and it will be a tough game because the expectation around them was to get promoted. We played them earlier in the season at our place and drew 1-1 to get a good point.

“Now we go up to the Riverside needing to win. Middlesbrough need the win, too, so it should be an exciting game. There’s no pressure on us. We’ve got everything to gain and nothing to lose. Let’s enjoy the moment that we’re in.

“Middlesbrough have been through a challenging period recently, but they won their last game. Tony Pulis is a vastly experienced manager and they don’t concede many goals because they are resolute defensively. They have massive threats, too.

“We’ll be looking to start the game strongly, but so will Middlesbrough. We know it will be a tough game.”
