Aina: We Must Deliver

12 January 2018
Ola Aina knows that now is the time for actions to speak louder than words.

After recording what was only a second away win in 14 months in last weekend’s Emirates FA Cup Third Round victory over Blackburn Rovers, Aina and his team-mates return to Sky Bet Championship action on Saturday as Reading provide the opposition at the KCOM Stadium.

The on-loan Chelsea defender is keen to see the Tigers build on the morale-boosting win at Ewood Park when facing the Royals, but was quick to stress the need for the team to do their talking on the pitch.

“Last weekend at Blackburn was a step forward for us,” he said.

“Getting back to winning ways was key and a confidence boost the team needed. Hopefully, we can kick on from here now.

“We can’t just say that, though, we have to go out and do it. We haven’t managed to put back-to-back wins together this season and that has to change.

“Away at Reading earlier in the season, we played really well in the first half and deservedly led at the break.

“The second half was a bit rocky, but we looked as though we’d done enough to see it out only to then concede late on.

“It’s going to be a tough game because, like ourselves, they want the points to move away from trouble at the bottom, but I’m confident we can do well and a get a result on Saturday.”

Aina has also praised the impact made by Nigel Adkins since his arrival at the KCOM, with the Nigerian international saying the Tigers’ Head Coach has inspired the players since taking over from Leonid Slutsky last month.

“The new manager has changed the mindset of the whole dressing room,” added Aina.

“I feel like everyone is more positive. We have players here with unbelievable ability in our squad. We have enough ability in the squad to turn teams over at this level.

“We’ve shown what we’re capable of at times this season, but we have to produce the goods week in week out and find that level of consistency needed to string together a positive run of results.

“Right now, the coach has got us feeling confident and positive and we all go into games with a real belief in our ability as a team to go out and win games.

“We’ve shown that we can do it against the best teams in this division – we dominated our recent games against Derby, Leeds and Fulham but didn’t get the results that our performances deserved.

“We’ve been playing some good football, everyone can see that. The style of our football is really nice to watch but we just haven’t been able to put the finishing touch to it and win the game.

“That has to change now though. We have to start delivering results as well as performances.”
