First Team Coach Tony Pennock took charge of training today and was impressed with the reaction from the players during the session after what has been a difficult 24 hours for the team.
“It’s been a difficult morning with Leonid coming in and saying his goodbyes to the staff and players, but the lads know they have to get down to work and the ones that worked with me this morning certainly did that,” he said. “It was a pleasing session.
“Unfortunately, it’s part and parcel of football. It’s not the first time we’ve seen what happened this morning and last night and it won’t be the last time either.
“Everybody is disappointed with how the season has gone so far, but the lads know there might be a new manager in by the end of the week, so they have to be in the best condition they can for him to pick his team on Saturday. It’s down to them to perform in training and put themselves in his thoughts.
“It’s now a fresh start for everyone, especially the boys that haven’t been in the team of late.
“It always happens at every club – there are players who find themselves in favour and there are players that aren’t quite in the manager’s thoughts. But with someone new coming in, everybody will start with a clean slate when the appointment is made.
“Whoever comes in will no doubt have his own ideas on the team and then we’ll go from there when he does arrive.”
