Louis Beckett, Harvey Carew, Harry Fisk, Oliver Green, Josh Hinds, Will Jarvis, Jake Leake, Harry Lovick, McCauley Power, Luke Rees, McCauley Snelgrove and Josh Ward all penned Scholarship contracts at last weeks annual Scholars Induction evening, which will see the new intake effectively become full-time footballers at the Academy for the next two years.
Assessing that challenge, Beale says the group will have to show commitment both on and off the pitch if they are to make a success of their scholarships.
“I have to congratulate the lads on achieving a scholarship with the Academy,” he said. “It’s the first step on the ladder to becoming a professional footballer, but obviously they’ve still got a lot of hard work ahead of them over the course of the next two years.
“It won’t be easy for the lads though and there will be tough times. But that just means that each and every one of them is going to have to work hard.
“I’m really happy with the lads that we’ve got. I think we’ve got a really good group of first-year scholars coming into the building who are going to add the current crop of first-years, who will become second-years next season, and the environment at our Academy base at Bishop Burton College.
“The two years will go quickly but they just have to embrace and enjoy every single challenge that comes their way.
“It’s important to remember that they’ll have plenty of support as well – from their team-mates and all the staff at the Academy – we’re all in this together.
“We had two of current second-year scholars speaking to the lads at the induction evening we held last week and Jacob Greaves made a great comment that the previous two years have been the best of his life.
“It was a great way to sum up what the scholarship can be for people and I really hope that message went home with our latest intake of scholars ahead them joining us on a full-time basis when pre-season begins in the latter stages of June.”
