The 21-year-old centre-back had a watching brief as Nigel Adkins’ side began their pre-season games programme with a 2-1 win over C.S. Maritimo on Tuesday.
But, after two days of training with his new team-mates out in Portugal since putting pen-to-paper on a three-year deal, Burke is eager to get started in black and amber.
“Obviously I wasn’t able to be part of the first game out here in Portugal but hopefully I’ll be involved against Braga,” he said.
“I feel ready after a couple of days of training with the lads and it would be nice to get 45 minutes out on the pitch tonight.”
Burke admits to already feeling at home in the Tigers’ camp and hailed the welcome he has received from everybody at the Club after arriving in the Algarve.
“I’ve joined a good bunch of lads and they’ve made me feel very welcome in my first couple of days at the Club,” he added. “The bonding process has already started, which I’m very pleased about.
“It’s fantastic that I signed in time to come out and be part of the camp in Portugal. These sorts of trips are always good for morale and brings a group together.
“That’s what you need at any club – players who are prepared to talk to each other, get on well with each other and also shout at each other when needed.
“We have got to demand the very best out of each other every day in training. We’ve got that in the group here though. Nobody is ready to sit back and take each day as it comes – everyone wants to push on.”
