Cartwright Relishing England Opportunity

07 October 2019
Harvey Cartwright has spoken of his delight at receiving a first-ever international call-up after being named in the England U18 squad.

The goalkeeper is set to join up with the Young Lions’ squad later today ahead of a mini-tour of central Europe, which will see Ian Foster’s side play three matches – against Poland, Slovakia and Austria – in the space of six days, with Cartwright keen to make an impression on the international stage.

“I was over the moon when I was told about the news,” he said.

“I went to an England goalkeeper camp in August, which I thoroughly enjoyed. That was a great experience and after getting that chance, I just wanted to push on. So, I’m absolutely delighted to get called-up. It’s an exciting time.

“It will be an unbelievable feeling to have the chance to pull on the shirt and represent my country, but I’m not getting carried away one bit.

“I know I’m not guaranteed any game-time whatsoever. I’ve got to work hard in training in order to earn the chance but hopefully, I can get some minutes under my belt – that’s the aim.

“Jon (Beale) and the rest of the coaching staff have just told me to go there and enjoy it and that’s what I’m determined to do.”
