Classic Clashes: Fulham 0-1 Hull City | March 2009

10 May 2020
In the absence of regular football, our look back at some classic clashes in Hull City history continues with an important 1-0 win away at Fulham in the latter stages of the 2008/09 Premier League campaign.

An injury-time strike from substitute Manucho secured a vital three points in Hull City’s bid for Premier League safety away at Fulham in March 2009.

The on-loan Manchester United striker was in the right place at the right time to direct a Richard Garcia cross past Mark Schwarzer from close-range at the end of a game that Fulham dominated.

Andy Johnson had a header cleared off the line for Fulham, while Matt Duke saved long-range strikes from both Paul Konchesky and Clint Dempsey strikes. Duke played a big part in the win as he again denied Dempsey before Manucho’s dramatic late heroics.

The result brought a first league win for Phil Brown’s men in over three months and saw them complete a league double over the Cottagers having registered a 2-1 win on the opening day of the campaign on home soil.
