The 25-year old Dutchman – who was appointed as Club captain earlier this week – insists everyone in the Tigers’ camp are focused on the job at hand and raring to go ahead of the restart.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for us,” he said. “The whole squad is fit and everybody is hungry to play again. Everybody at the Club knows that this is a massive game and everybody knows what they have to do.
“Everybody is 100% prepared for what is coming up. We had a few friendly games last week so the confidence is back for us. We’ve trained hard so now we just have to turn up, enjoy the game and do the best we can to get the result.
“The friendlies were important for us. It allowed all the lads to get minutes in the bank and ensure that everybody is ready for the upcoming games.”
Grant McCann was able to report a clean bill of health ahead of the visit of the Addicks – and de Wijs feels that the whole squad will have a part to play in the end-of-season run-in.
“We need everyone,” he added. “There’s eight more games that come thick and fast after Charlton so we’ll need the whole squad.
“We had two matches against Premier League opposition last week and I think everybody did really well. The players got some rhythm back and were able to get some minutes in the tank.
“The most important thing is that we pick up three points today. The faster we pick up points, the quicker we’ll grow in confidence.
“We have to be focused and know what we have to do. Charlton will be similar to how they were when we played them away – physical and direct – but we’ll be ready for the challenge.”
