Derby County vs Hull City: Team News

16 January 2020
Josh Magennis, Callum Elder and new signing Martin Samuelsen are all eyeing up an involvement in Saturday’s away game at Derby County.

Magennis and Elder are both returning from hamstring problems and have trained fully this week, while Samuelsen joined the Tigers from West Ham United on Thursday morning to add to Head Coach Grant McCann’s attacking options.

“Martin will travel with us,” McCann said of his new signing.

“He’s trained with us, although his last competitive game was in December (during a loan spell with Haugesund in Norway) so he’s a wee bit short in terms of match time. He’s been training with the first team at West Ham and trained with us today and looked fine.

“Josh and Callum have trained all week and are good. Josh actually trained at the back end of last week as well but we just didn’t risk him against Fulham because we couldn’t afford to lose him again, but he’s trained fully this week and really opened his legs up so he’s good.

“We will be missing a couple of players on Saturday, though. Two players that have played a lot of games for us this season. It’s disappointing but that is the reason we have a squad. They’ll just miss this Saturday’s game. One pulled out of training today and one hasn’t trained all week.”

Stephen Kingsley is due to return to training on Monday as he recovers from a hamstring problem, while Jon Toral, Kevin Stewart and Angus MacDonald remain unavailable.

Derby will be without midfielder Krystian Bielik who has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, while Graeme Shinnie and Mason Bennett are also unlikely to be involved at the weekend having only just returned to full training.
