Toral openly admits that fans have so far only seen glimpses of what he is capable of following his arrival from Arsenal last August, with his 2017/18 campaign ranging from winning the Club’s Player of the Month award in December to spells out of the side due to injury or selection.
However, with roots planted and an important pre-season ahead, the Spanish midfielder is determined to hit the ground running come August.
“I wasn’t too happy with my season and I think I need to be more consistent with my performances,” said the 23-year-old.
“There were highs and lows in the season but I want to kick-on and show what I’m really worth when August comes around, especially as I feel more settled here now.
“I think there have only been glimpses of what I’m capable of so far and that is why the consistency has to come in.
“I need to add goals to my game, I know that, because last season wasn’t a good one for me in front of goal. I know I have goals in me because I have shown that in other seasons at other clubs. So there is a focus on improving that alongside other areas and after having a nice break I’ll be ready to get going for pre-season.”
Pre-season for Toral will at least see him settled in his environment. Previous years have seen him spend the majority of July with Arsenal before heading off to spend the season playing elsewhere.
This summer will be different, and Toral believes that will have a positive impact over a long Championship season.
“It’s nice to be settled somewhere and to feel a part of something,” continued Toral.
“It will be good to start the season with the players that I’m going to be playing with. I’ve already learnt a lot in my time here and experienced many different things. I’ve started games, I’ve come off the bench, I’ve watched from the stands and I’ve had a time out injured – I have to learn from all of that and, like everybody else here, aim to claim a regular spot in the starting eleven next season.
“There’s a lot of competition for my position and I’m sure more players will arrive, but that should only make us better.”
