Whilst circumstances currently mean there’s no live football to enjoy, we’re delving into the archives to feature a photograph from Hull City’s illustrious history. For the foreseeable future, we’ll provide an image each day for supporters to enjoy and reminisce.

Hull City celebrate a third promotion to the Premier League following their 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final at Wembley on this day in 2016.

Having beaten Derby County over two legs to reach the final, the Tigers went into the game as favourites against a Wednesday side that had seen off Brighton & Hove Albion to book their shot at a return to the top flight.

Steve Bruce’s side dominated for large periods but struggled to find a way past Owls’ goalkeeper Keiren Westwood, who was also helped out by the woodwork and some wasteful finishing.

It needed something special to decide the game and it duly arrived 18 minutes from time. Diame collected a Robert Snodgrass pass before taking aim and curling a glorious shot just out of Westwood’s reach and into the top corner of the net from 25 yards.

There were some nervy moments late on as the Tigers defended their lead, but the final whistle brought scenes of joy and delight – Hull City were heading back to the Premier League.
