Steve Bruce’s side played the away leg to perfection, seeing off early pressure from the Rams before silencing the home crowd with two goals in ten first-half minutes. Abel Hernandez opened the scoring with a low drive from 25 yards before Moses Odubajo’s deflected effort found the back of the net to double the lead.
With the Tigers in a great position at the break, another 45 minutes of hard graft was needed. They produced that, and then some. The Rams sensed one last opportunity to pull a goal back from a late corner, but when Tom Ince’s delivery was easily dealt with, it was the Tigers who ended up putting the ball in the back of the net.
Breaking swiftly, the ball was worked for Andy Robertson on the left and he drilled a low shot into the bottom corner of the net from outside the box to send the 3,009 travelling Tigers who made the trip to the iPro Stadium wild with delight.
