Irvine has missed the Tigers’ last two games after picking up a thigh problem during the win against Rotherham United and is yet to join in with training this week.
“Jackson hasn’t been able to join in with training yet so he has to be classed as a big doubt for the weekend,” said Adkins.
“I’m not ruling him out completely and I hope he can be available for selection, but if the game was today he wouldn’t be fit to play.
“Also on the negative side, Nouha Dicko could be struggling for the weekend. He’s feeling his knee a little bit and he dropped out of training today. We’ll see how he responds and we’ve got Friday and Saturday morning, but again if the game was today he wouldn’t be playing.”
Ondrej Mazuch and James Weir remain unavailable as they recover from knee injuries.
Derby will again be without former Tiger Curtis Davies because of a hamstring injury whilst right back Jayden Bogle will sit out with an ankle problem.
Wales internationals Harry Wilson and Tom Lawrence face a race against time to be fit with groin and calf issues respectively, but Tom Huddlestone and Scott Malone are available after returning from injuries in midweek.
