Jon Toral, who wasn’t included in Nigel Adkins’ matchday squad for Monday night’s defeat against Aston Villa after picking up a knock in the build-up, is available for selection after training well all week, although Kamil Grosicki is unlikely to be involved at Hillsborough as he continues to work his way towards full fitness following his World Cup exploits over the summer.
“Jon picked up a little niggle so we didn’t risk him against Aston Villa,” said Adkins.
“He was one to miss out on the final squad for that game but he’s trained bang on this week.
“Kamil was still working his way towards his level of fitness after the World Cup and whether I put him into the squad for this weekend we’ll have to see. He’s still short of the level that we’re after and we have a lot of games coming up, so we have to make sure we’re equipped to deal with a demanding schedule.
“Jackson Irvine is also looking stronger after the illness that he had.”
Ondrej Mazuch and James Weir (both knee) remain unavailable.
Sheffield Wednesday will be without strikers Gary Hooper and Atdhe Nuhiu as well as midfielder Kieran Lee, although Steven Fletcher could make his first start since lining up against the Tigers last December after recovering from surgery.
