The talented midfielder has had a scan this week after feeling a twist in his knee at Fulham last Saturday, although the full extent of the problem is unlikely to be known until after the weekend.
“It’s disappointing for us and frustrating for Jon because he’s been in good form, but it is what it is,” said Head Coach Grant McCann.
“He’ll miss the weekend and we’ll see how he is after that. He’s had a scan and we’ll take it from there. In terms of the extent of it, we probably won’t know until after the weekend.”
Despite the disappointment of losing Toral, McCann insists he has a range of options to cover his absence as the Tigers go looking for a fourth successive league win.
“We’ve got good options. We’ve got ‘Eavesy’, Keane Lewis-Potter has been training really well and scored for the U23s playing as a ten. Jackson Irvine can play there, George Honeyman can play there, we can bring Kevin Stewart back into the team – we’ve got a lot of different options and it’s about picking the right one.”
Norbert Balogh is also unavailable for Saturday as he recovers from a calf problem although he is said to be progressing nicely, while Josh Magennis is ruled out through suspension.
