Signed from Nottingham Forest on an initial two-year deal in June 2018.
Born in the US state of Illinois, Eric Lichaj’s early football years were spent in the American college system before a move to England was sealed when snapped up by Aston Villa.
The defender was a regular in the Villa reserve side during the 2008/09 season and then impressed in the senior set-up the following pre-season before being allowed to gain first team experience through loan spells with Lincoln City and Leyton Orient.
A senior Villa debut came at the start of the 2010/11 season in a Europa League tie against Rapid Vienna and that was soon followed by his first Premier League appearances as he became a regular figure in the first team squad.
Further experience came with a loan spell at Leeds United and when first team chances at Villa Park became limited, Nottingham Forest won the race to land his signature in time for the 2013/14 season.
At the City Ground he became a first team regular straightaway and over five seasons he went on to make almost 200 appearances for the club, winning their Player of the Season award for 2016/17.
He hit the headlines in February of this year when he scored twice to help Forest knock Arsenal out of the FA Cup, and landed himself a new dog in the process! His wife had promised to get him a dog if he netted a hat-trick, but after team-mates and fans joined in with his crusade she bowed to pressure and ‘Gunner’ became the latest addition to the family!
On the international scene, Lichaj has represented the US at various age levels and made his senior debut against Colombia in 2010. At the time of joining the Tigers, he had 15 international caps to his name.
