Norbert Balogh was a free agent when offered a trial with Hull City in September 2019. A few days later, the Hungarian forward was signing a one-year deal at the KCOM Stadium.
Balogh started his career with Debrecen in his homeland, joining as a youth before being offered a contract at the age of 17. He made his senior debut in 2014, and also had a spell on loan at Letavertes, while his talents brought international recognition at U18, U19, U20 and U21 level during his time with Debrecen.
Standing at more than 6’5” tall, plenty of clubs across Europe were taking note of Balogh’s potential with Ajax reportedly offering to sign him in early 2016. However, it was to Italy that the forward headed when signing for Palermo and he made 20 Serie A appearances before financial problems started to impact the club.
Having made his senior international debut in 2017, Balogh spent the 2018/19 season on loan with Cypriot club APOEL Nicosia, scoring twice in 12 games, before returning to Italy where the financial collapse of Palermo resulted in his release, and his subsequent invitation to join the Tigers where he soon impressed Head Coach Grant McCann.
