Bio

Raised in the small town of Hodonn in Czech Republic, Ondrej Mazuch has seen more of Europe than most.

The central defender began his career at Czech side Brno and he made 24 appearances in his debut season in professional football before moving to Serie A club Fiorentina in the summer of 2007.

Mazuch spent two seasons in Italy but failed to make a league appearance for the Florence-based club and a loan move to Anderlecht was agreed to boost his exposure to first team football. After an impressive first season, the Belgian club signed the defender on a permanent deal and Mazuch went on to make 89 appearances for the club, scoring five times.

His impressive form saw Ukrainian side FC Dnipro come calling in January 2012. Over a three-year spell, Mazuch made 94 appearances for Dnipro and was part of the side which finished as runners-up in the UEFA Europa League in 2014/15.

The 28-year-old moved back to the Czech Republic in December 2015 when joining Sparta Prague, making six appearances in the remainder of the 2015/16 season. He played a further 23 games for the Czech side last season to take his overall tally for the club to 29, with his only goal coming in a 3-1 league win over FC Zbrojovka Brno in October 2016.

Mazuch then opted to take the Tigers up on an offer of a trial during the Club’s Portuguese pre-season training camp and subsequently signed a two-year deal to complete his switch to the KCOM Stadium.

Mazuch was a regular performer for the Czech Republic at youth level, representing his country in Under-16, Under-17, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 age groups before making his senior debut in a friendly against Turkey in 2010. He went on to make a further three appearances for his nation, with his last cap coming against Norway three years ago.
