Irvine Injury To Be Assessed

03 October 2018
Jackson Irvine will be assessed by the Club’s medical staff after being forced off with an Achilles injury during Tuesday night’s defeat to Leeds United.

Irvine left the field during the first half and Head Coach Nigel Adkins admits that the Australian midfielder is a doubt for Saturday’s trip to Sheffield United.

“He took a nasty blow to his Achilles. He tried to carry on but he couldn’t so he had to come off and that’s not like Jackson,” said Adkins.

“We don’t know at this stage how long he will be out for, we’ll assess it, but with him coming off he has to be a doubt for the weekend.”

Adkins also explained why there was no substitute goalkeeper on the Tigers’ bench last night.

“George Long went down ill late in the afternoon, and we have Callum Burton, Will Mannion and Charlie Andrew out on loan at the moment while Harrison Foulkes picked up a concussion playing for the Under 23s,” explained Adkins.

“If it had happened earlier in the day we would have maybe looked at recalling Callum from Chesterfield, but as it was we went with seven outfield players on the bench. I’ve done it in the past. It’s not ideal, but it’s not an issue either.”
