The Socceroos have been drawn in Group B alongside Jordan, Kuwait, Chinese Taipei and Nepal in the group stage of the second round of Asian Football Confederation qualifiers and kick-off their bid to secure a fifth successive appearance at the tournament with a trip to Kuwait next week.
Irvine has been included in Graham Arnold’s squad following his excellent displays in black and amber in the opening month of the 2019/20 campaign, and the Tigers’ midfielder is eager to continue his fine club form onto the international scene.
“It’s going to be an exciting few years and everybody’s really keen to be involved,” Irvine told socceroos.com.au.
“You have to keep your domestic form up to make sure you give yourself a chance for selection and then even when you’re in camp you need to make sure you train well and show what you can do to try and get yourself in the team.
“It’s great to have kind of a fresh start coming off the back of the last campaign and the Asian Cup as well.
“It feels like everybody’s refreshed and ready to start what’s going to be an incredibly tough but exciting campaign.
“We’ve got an abundance of talented players and guys doing really well all over the world: Asia, Europe and at home.
“It’s an exciting time and everyone can’t wait to get this campaign underway.”
