Apprentice Groundstaff

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a determined and ambitious individual to join Hull City & Superstadium Management Company’s groundstaff team on an apprenticeship. We are looking for applicants who are keen to develop, learn new skills and progress as they assist in the maintenance of the playing surfaces at the KCOM Stadium and our training facilities in Cottingham.

We will utilise a hands-on approach and the selected individual will benefit from a “learning-by-doing” method of mentoring in order to experience what is necessary to ensure our pitches are maintained to the level required for elite professional sport. Applicants should be flexible and available to available to work various shift patterns, depending upon the fixture schedule of the first team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working outside and wishes to pursue a career in groundsmanship to be a part of the team which makes match days possible at the KCOM Stadium.

Duties & Roles:

  • Ensure our pitches are of the highest standard and safe for use during training and the playing of matches, using a variety of machinery and tools
  • Undertake the preparation and maintenance of sports pitches at the KCOM Stadium and First Team Training Ground, including preparing pitch markings prior to all Hull City and Hull FC fixtures
  • Post-match remediation of the playing turf at the KCOM Stadium and Hull City’s training facilities
  • Learn how to use and safety operate all machinery onsite in compliance with Health & Safety Legislation
  • Help maintain adequate stock levels of fertilisers, seeds and other relevant materials
  • Demonstrate self-motivation, organisation, planning and good time management
  • Be able to work as part of a team or independently
