Magennis Helps Northern Ireland To Friendly Win

15 October 2019
Josh Magennis came on as a second half substitute to help Northern Ireland defeat the Czech Republic 3-2 in Prague on Monday night – his country’s first away win in a friendly since August 2006.

The Hull City man was introduced into the action on 71 minutes when replacing Liam Boyce.

Two goals from Paddy McNair and Jonny Evans strike gave Michael O’Niell’s side a communing 3-0 lead at the break.

The hosts hit back with two goals in as many minutes midway after the break through substitute Vladimir Darida and Alex Kral but, in the end, Northern Ireland held on to secure a confidence boosting victory ahead of next month’s vital qualifiers against the Netherlands and Germany.

Young goalkeeper Harvey Cartwright, meanwhile, was an unused substitute as England U18s continued their mini-trip through Europe with a 1-0 victory over Slovakia U19s.
