Hull City 0-0 Lincoln City: Match Report

9 February 2021

Hull City and Lincoln City played out a goalless draw on a freezing cold night at the KCOM Stadium.

In a game of very few chances, the closest either side came to winning it came in the opening minute when Keane Lewis-Potter's deflected effort came back off the woodwork.

Grant McCann made three changes to his starting eleven following the weekend defeat at Burton Albion. Matt Ingram came in for George Long in goal, Josh Emmanuel replaced the injured skipper Richie Smallwood and Josh Magennis came in ahead of Mallik Wilks in attack. The changes meant a more advanced attacking role for Emmanuel down the right, with Daniel Crowley the most advanced of a central midfield three.

Snow showers before kick-off meant that there was plenty of the white stuff on the pitch as the game got underway, but the Tigers still made a quick start with Keane Lewis-Potter seeing a deflected effort come back off the crossbar inside the opening 30 seconds.

It formed part of a bright opening from the home side with most of the early play inside the Lincoln half of the field, although the final ball was just lacking.

The visitors threatened for the first time in the 14th minute when Morgan Rogers sent a low shot just wide, while Conor McGrandles was booked for a challenge on Magennis.

Lewie Coyle also picked up a booking and, although the home team went on to dominate the first half, it remained goalless at the break.

Rogers was booked early in the second half for a late challenge on Coyle, while Greg Docherty saw a low shot deflect just wide.

A first substitution by the Tigers saw Wilks come on for Coyle as Emmanuel reverted to right back.

Chances remained few and far between with one of the best falling to Lewis-Potter following Callum Elder's low ball in from the left but he fired high over the bar.

Ingram was forced into a save as he pushed Brennan Johnson's shot away at the other end before a second change from McCann saw Regan Slater replace Crowley.

The home side continued to look the most likely winners, but the deadlock couldn't be broken and both sides emerged with a point each.
