The Tigers were deadly on the counter-attack with Josh Bowler opening the scoring early on before Jarrod Bowen and Tom Eaves sealed the win after the break.
“We played really well today,” said McCann.
“We’ve come to one of the best teams in the league and were tactically very good. We broke on them well. We’ve got good players at the top end of the pitch and when they’re on form they can hurt anybody in this division.
“We knew that if we were deadly at crucial times in the game we would have a chance of getting a result. To a man, I thought our players were brilliant out there.
“Scoring early gave us a foothold and we were good on the transitions. We caused them problems every time we won possession back.
“I was really pleased for Josh Bowler getting his first senior goal. It’s been tough for him in terms of trying to break past Jarrod and Kamil, and he’s waited patiently for the opportunity he’s had in the last couple of games. He’s taken that opportunity.
“Jarrod’s got ten goals now this season and is a threat every time he gets the ball. He’s been working on finishing with his right foot.
“I was pleased for Tom, too. He scored a really good header to win us the game against Sheffield Wednesday recently and his finish today was the type a forward needs sometimes.
“The clean sheet was really pleasing as well. At 3-0, that became the key message. It would have put a bit of a dampener on things if we’d conceded because I thought we were outstanding defensively. Our full backs worked so hard to stop their threats and, when the ball did come in, Reece and Jordy were like magnets for it.
“We’ve always had belief, but I think it’s taken a little bit of time for everybody at the football club to believe that we can challenge for the top six. That is our aim.”
