The 27-year-old striker became the Tigers’ second signing of the summer yesterday when putting pen-to-paper on a three-year deal following the expiry of his contract with Gillingham.
Eaves has been in fine goalscoring form over the past two seasons for the Gills, netting more times than any other player in League One in that time, while his tally of 22 last term saw finish as the fourth-highest scorer in the third tier of English football.
And McCann believes he has secured a quality player to increase his attacking options.
“Tom will be a great addition for us,” he said. “He’s got a different dynamic to what we’ve got and will bring something different to our forward line.
“He’s coming in with good pedigree. He was probably one of the best centre-forwards in League One last year in terms of the goals he was scoring in a team that wasn’t around the top-end of the table, so we’re really pleased to have him here.
“He’s a good age as well and he’ll be ready to take that next step to the Championship and with the wide players that we’ve got in the building such as Jarrod Bowen, Kamil Grosicki, David Milinkovic and Jon Toral, they’re going to create loads of chances for him.
“He’s been good against my teams when I’ve played against him over the years at Peterborough and Doncaster. I remember he was great in the game at the Keepmoat Stadium last season and scored a great goal coming in off the left.
“He’s got a lot to his play. He’s a big boy, but he’s not just a target man. He can run, he can shift, his link-up play is really good and he can shoot off both his right and his left foot, so he can mix-up his game which is really good.
“I’d also like to thank Lee Darnbrough and Ehab for helping to get this deal over the line.”
