The Tigers are without a fixture this weekend due to the first international break of the 2019/20 campaign.
However, a number of players were still able to gain some valuable game time after a training match was arranged against Jon Beale’s youngsters, and McCann admitted afterwards that it was a positive workout for his squad.
“It was really good to get minutes into some of the players that haven’t played too much in the opening month of the season,” he said.
“The likes of Ryan Tafazolli, Josh Bowler and Leo (Da Silva Lopes), who has been in and out of the team in a variety of positions.
“Then there was Tom Eaves, who leading up to next weekend’s Wigan game wouldn’t have played for almost three weeks, so it was important to give him some minutes as well.
“Robbie McKenzie was another one. There were a lot of players we needed to get some minutes into and it was great to do so.
“The game also gave me a really good opportunity to have a look at some of our U23s, who I was really impressed with.
“It was a really good game actually and I was really pleased with their performance levels considering they had only played another friendly game against Manchester United, which they won 5-0, two days earlier.
“That was great to hear and, as I say, I was impressed by what I saw from them in the game.”
