McCann: We’re Working Hard To Improve

30 August 2019
Grant McCann says he and his players have been frustrated by certain results this season but insists everyone in the group is working hard to improve.

The Tigers have accumulated four points from their opening five games of the Sky Bet Championship campaign, although they have arguably deserved much more for their performances and efforts to-date.

McCann and his players head into this weekend’s clash with Millwall looking to bounce back from successive home defeats and the Northern Irishman is confident the team will soon get its rewards.

“We’re really pleased with how we’re playing and I feel as though we have been a tad unlucky so far in certain games this season,” he said.

“Yes, we haven’t picked the results up, which has been frustrating for everyone, but the performances have been there.

“We’ve got to continue that though because if we keep performing as we have been, we’ll definitely win more games than we lose and put ourselves in a healthier position.

“We’ve been dominating games but just not taking our chances. We do feel as though we are creating enough chances but we have to continue to do that going forward because I feel as though we’re not too far away from really punishing someone – and when that happens – it will give everyone a lift.

“We know that we have to take our chances though, especially when we’re on top in games. It’s very clear in this division that, if you don’t take your chances when you’re on top, you can get hurt.

“You need to make sure you punish teams when you’re enjoying that spell of pressure in games. That’s probably the area we’ve been short in so far this season but we are learning. We’re getting better and I feel as though we’re improving all the time. We’re not far away.

“We know if we keep playing the way we have been, and keep believing in the way we set our stall out, then we’ll get our rewards and pick up a lot of positive results.

“It’s very easy for people to think that the 4-3-3 system isn’t working, but I think we’ve shown in every single game – for large periods – how good we can be.

“Plan B is to make plan A better – it’s as simple as that – and it’s down to myself and my coaching staff to make it work.

“If that means us adjusting a couple of things, then no problem if that’s the way we have to do it. We’ll keep working hard with the group going forward as we strive to improve.”
