Memorable Match: Cup Joy At The Riverside

12 April 2019
Goals from Aaron Mclean and Nick Proschwitz saw Hull City start their best-ever FA Cup run with a 2-0 third win at Middlesbrough in January 2014.

Steve Bruce made nine changes to his side from the one that suffered a New Year’s Day defeat by Liverpool in the Premier League – largely owing to a heavy festive fixture load and a sickness bug in the camp.

And it was one of those new faces that opened the scoring after just ten minutes. David Meyler’s deflected shot fell to Mclean and he managed to poke the ball past Dimi Konstantopoulos, just a day after returning to the club from a loan spell at Birmingham City.

The Tigers sealed the win just past the hour mark when Proschwitz applied the finishing touch to a neat counter down the right wing. Liam Rosenior and Paul McShane got things going with some tidy interplay that freed up George Boyd to race to the byline and cut a pass back to the centre. The ball arrived slightly behind Proschwitz, but the German was still able to guide a well-taken finish past Konstantopoulos.
