Hull City U18’s endured a tough afternoon at Bishop Burton College, losing 6-1 against Crewe Alexandra. McCauley Snelgrove scored for the Tigers in only their second game since coming back from the temporary Academy lockdown.
John Anderson and Matt Hare made five changes to the starting eleven that was defeated 2-0 against Coventry City last time out. Billy Leach, Harry Wallis, Louis Beckett, Harry Lovick and Snelgrove all came in to replace Jake Leake, McCauley Power, Rio Dyer, Sam Deacon and Oliver Green respectively.
It was the visitors who created the first opportunities as Harry Fisk denied both Charlie Finney and Matthew McDonald, before Harvey Carew almost put the Tigers ahead, but his low shot went narrowly wide.
The City striker had another great opportunity moments later, after good work by Will Jarvis, but Carew’s shot curled wide. At the other end, Jevon Mills put in a great block to deny Joel Tabiner. Fisk then denied Salisbury with a good save, before Snelgrove fired a shot over, after a good passing move by the Tigers on the right wing.
Crewe took the lead five minutes from half-time as Finney rifled a shot into the top corner, after the Tigers’ blocked Salisbury’s initial effort.
The visitors doubled their lead five minutes into the second half as Salisbury finished Finney’s cross at the back post. One minute later and Crewe scored their third as Finney’s low shot found the bottom corner.
Henry Curtis tried to get a goal back for the Tigers, but his cross-shot deflected wide, before Crewe scored their fourth through Salisbury. The Tigers did get one goal back a minute later, as Snelgrove’s shot beat Jerry Le Grand Akpo in the Crewe goal.
Crewe then scored a quick fire double to extend their lead as Finney secured his hat-trick with a finish at the near post, before Sean Lawton saw his deflected effort find the back of the net to score the visitors’ sixth.
The Tigers did have chances to reduce the deficit as Jarvis and Snelgrove forced a double save from Le Grand-Akpo, before the latter saw another effort cleared off the line. Carew then forced another save from Le Grand-Akpo, before substitute Green saw his rebound cleared off the line late on.
