Grant McCann is prepared for a “big test” as Shrewsbury Town come to the KCOM Stadium this afternoon.
The visitors currently sit in 23rd place in Sky Bet League One, but the Tigers’ Head Coach knows that it will be no easy game against the Shrews.
“We’ve got a big test coming up today,” McCann said. “People will look at it as first versus second bottom, but they’ve got a manager in there now who is very experienced in Steve Cotterill, who brought me to Cheltenham on-loan from West Ham. I know him very well and his teams are very organised and he’ll be very demanding of them.
“They’ve picked up a couple of good performances and results over the last few weeks, particularly the Charlton game where they scored late to equalise.
“Every game is a challenge and we’ve got to be ready for them. If you look back at the Oxford game, we didn’t start the game well and could’ve been two or three goals down, but I think we’ve learnt from the Fleetwood game, and you can see that the group is learning, which is pleasing. We stayed in the game against Oxford and in the end, we probably should’ve won the game.
‘We know that we have to perform today to win. We have to be at our best to get the three points. They’ll be coming to the KCOM Stadium to win, and so will we, so hopefully that bodes for a really good game.”
