Matt Ingram says he is enjoying his start to the 2020/21 season with Hull City.
The Tigers’ goalkeeper has been ever-present in Sky Bet League One this season, racking up eight clean sheets in all competitions.
“It’s been really good so far, I’ve really enjoyed it,” said Ingram. “So far, so good. We’ve had a few bumps in the road along the way but I think in general we’ve done pretty well.
“Obviously as a goalkeeper, you don’t get many opportunities and when they do come up, you’ve got to take them, which I think I have so far.
"It was difficult being sat on the bench (last season) and it’s not like outfield players where you might get 10 or 20 minutes at the end of a game to show what you’re about. You’ve got to do your stuff in training, work hard and be ready for your opportunity when it comes about.
“We’ve been working hard and putting a lot of work into our defending on the training pitch. We take pride in it and we’ve got the coaching staff all pushing us to be better. We study our opposition intently and try and nullify what they do.”
Despite keeping eight shut-outs, the Tigers’ shot-stopper was quick to praise his outfielders for their defensive contribution.
“I’d like to think I’ve been fairly consistent so far,” he said. “I have to give credit to the lads in front of me as I think defensively we’ve been very, very good.
"In several games I’ve only had to save one or two shots maximum, so I’d like to think I’ve been fairly steady overall.
“I don’t think I faced a testing shot against Harrogate and that’s again credit to the defence. I just go into every game wanting to keep a clean sheet and wanting to do my best for the team.
“I like to think I organise quite well and talk my defenders through the game, which helps them. We’ve all got a good understanding of each other through training together and that’s helped me this season when I stepped into the team.
“Me and George (Long) get on really well, as do all of the goalkeepers. I’ve really enjoyed the competition last year and this year and we’ll continue to keep pushing each other and making each other better."
