Jones Looks Ahead To FA Cup Round One Tie

7 November 2020

Alfie Jones is hoping to gain some minutes in today’s Emirates FA Cup Round One fixture against Fleetwood Town at the KCOM Stadium.

The Tigers’ man is ready to seize the opportunity to impress as he looks to earn a spot in Grant McCann’s side for the upcoming Sky Bet League One matches.

“We’ve started the season well,” said Jones. “We had a good run of four or five games at the start of the season and obviously we’re going to encounter some tough challenges this campaign, but I think we’ve dealt with some big challenges.

“I think now we need to look forward and push on as much as possible but we’ve got a great squad here. It’s a great group of lads with a good coaching staff too, so all-in-all it’s positive here.

“I’m feeling good ahead of the game. I feel as if we owe them one and obviously we just want to get into the next round and we want to be in that hat come Monday so I’ll be looking forward to it if I do play. I need to take my opportunity and it’ll be nice to put the shirt on and get some minutes.

“It’s a massive cup and everyone wants to do well in the FA Cup. You come across big teams and you want to be playing against the best, but first and foremost we’ve got to win this game and get in the hat.

“We saw last time that Fleetwood are quite a direct and physical side. They’re a hardworking team and they’ve got a few good players so we’ll need to be on our game and we’ll need to put in a good performance to get the win.”
