Hull City can book their place in the Papa John’s Trophy knockout stages if they avoid defeat against Grimsby this evening.
The Tigers sit third in Northern Group H heading into their final group game, a point behind second-placed Harrogate and a point ahead of Ian Holloway’s Mariners.
A draw would secure runners-up spot on goal difference, irrespective of whether the subsequent penalty shootout is won or lost.
Victory would see Hull City leapfrog Leicester U21s and top the group, thus guaranteeing a home tie in the round of 32.
McCann has reaffirmed his intentions to progress in the competition and says he will again rotate his squad.
“We want to win,” said the Tigers’ Head Coach. “We want to go further in this competition.
“We’ll pick a good team to play in this game and there’ll be more opportunities for others who haven’t played much this season.
“We’re at home again and we want to make sure we keep winning these games at home.
“We want to try and progress in this competition.”
