Hull City U23 James Berry says the confidence in the squad is high after defeating Wigan Athletic 3-0 away at Christopher Park Academy.
Goals from Billy Chadwick, Max Sheaf and Berry maintained the Tigers’ perfect start to the U23 Professional Development League, following an opening day 2-0 victory against Sheffield United at the KCOM Stadium.
“The start we’ve had breeds confidence in the side and I think the squad as a whole has a really good thing going,” said Berry.
“We’re turning up to every game full of confidence and we’ve got a really good thing going and credit goes to ‘Daws’ (Andy Dawson) putting the right things into us everyday in training. It’s the same with Richard Naylor and all the other backroom staff that work with us everyday to make sure we’re ready for the games and make sure that we deliver performances like today.
“It was a fantastic performance from the lads to come away from home and get the three points, with three goals and another clean sheet; it was a really good performance from everyone.”
The striker netted the third goal of the game against his former side to take his tally to three goals in two games for the U23’s and Berry is aiming to continue this form for the side.
“I’m happy with my form at the moment,” added Berry.
“It was great to win at my old club. I had a lot of memories at Wigan, but it was definitely nice to come here and score.
“I now need to keep on going, keep working hard everyday, keep doing the things ‘Daws’ wants me to do and rewards like goals and assists will come my way, so I just need to keep my feet on the ground, keep working hard and stay humble.”
