Dawson on U23s Bristol City Win

21 April 2021

Hull City U23 Coach Andy Dawson praised his side for producing the quality when required in their 3-1 victory over Bristol City U23s.

A brace from McCauley Snelgrove and a goal from Ahmed Salam secured the Tigers all three points in the Professional Development League.

On the Result…

“It’s probably not the best we’ve played this season as I thought we were a little bit untidy at times. We got in some good areas and even though the decision of pass was right, I thought the execution at times could have been better. It was those little details that needed work and I’ve got to give the lads credit in terms of the way they stuck at it. They kept in the game and they showed resilience because they came up against a really high energy, front foot team in Bristol City, who move the ball really well.

“When we needed that little bit of quality in the final third, ‘Macca’ (Snelgrove) and Ahmed have produced it and the last goal was a great watch. From the cross and to the header back by Henri (Kumwenda), before the finish was great and those are the little details in games where we ask more from them.”

Harry Fisk Stepping Up…

“It was a brilliant experience for ‘Fisky’. It was good for him to play with those experienced players in ‘Clarky’ (Max Clark), Jordan (Flores) and Brandon (Fleming), because it’s something he’s not used to. He’s played at a really good stadium and he’s played with more experienced players that will help and talk to him and that’ll challenge him more, which is all part of a young player’s development. He’ll get talked to differently for what he does for the Under-18s and I thought he dealt with it really well and I thought the lads in front of him helped him out massively. Whatever ‘Fisky' needed to do, he dealt with it cleanly and effectively.”

Colchester Preview…

“We’ll analyse the game and take improvements. I’ve been really pleased over the last few weeks as we’ve showed some real quality. We’ll analyse this game and see the situations that we found ourselves in good areas, but we didn’t make the right decision, so we can improve and prepare for a tough Colchester game.”
